Religious Education and World Views
Our schools are caring, Christian communities. In acknowledging both schools’ Christian foundations, and the legal requirements for teaching Religious Education, we base our approach to teaching Christianity on the Church of England’s Understanding Christianity resource. For the exploration of other religions and worldviews, we use Jigsaw RE. We value all the worldviews we study equally, religious and non-religious alike, referring to them collectively as "worldviews."
We believe that Religious Education plays a vital role in helping pupils explore and understand the nature of religion, as well as in supporting their search for meaning and purpose in life. While providing a nurturing and inclusive environment, RE supports children in developing their own beliefs, attitudes, and values.
RE invites children to engage with deep and challenging questions about life’s purpose, and what it means to be human. It expands their understanding of religion and belief systems, including Christianity, other religious traditions, and non-religious worldviews, all within the context of a diverse and multi-belief society.
Religious Education also encourages personal reflection and spiritual growth. It helps children flourish as individuals, as members of their communities, and as citizens.
Once a term, children enjoy a visit from members of our church community ‘Open the Book’, who act-out stories from the Bible. This photo shows the re-enactment of the Three Wise Men celebrating the joy of the birth of Jesus.
