History

History is the story of where we come from. It helps us to understand our culture, our relationship with the wider world and our rights and responsibilities by providing children with the knowledge of their historical past, to enable them to better understand the world today.

Our aim is for children's to have good topic knowledge and a sense of Chronology, which builds up over their time at East Harptree and Ubley Primary school. To embed this rich Knowledge pupils engage meaningfully and learn this knowledge by a range of experiences, they refer to their prior learning and connect each topic learnt through substantiative concepts eg the idea of Empire, which weaves its way throughout the history curriculum.

Pupils are taught to think about History as a discipline and to think about how historians construct knowledge about the past; by using different sources and evidence to help interpret the past.  History is taught as a discrete subject.

Our overview for history ensures that history knowledge meets the requirements of the National Curriculum and that skills are built upon progressively as children move through the school.
